Party on the Parkway!
Philadelphia

Love Park, with Philadelphia City Hall in background

On this photo tour, we’ll explore the sights and delights along Benjamin Franklin Parkway, which is actually a part of Philadelphia’s park system. Starting at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, we’ll walk along the Parkway, photographing statues by Rodin, a giant sculpture of Ben Franklin, and a monumental fountain, the most beautiful in the city.

And here’s great news! You don’t have to go to Paris for great photography this spring: the Parkway Central Library is the spittin’ image of Hôtel de la Marine, which is adjacent to Place de la Concorde in Paris. And anyway, the Ben Franklin Parkway is Philly’s Champs Élysées. We’ll photograph the exterior of the Library and also some of its great interior views.

Speaking of great interiors, wait until you see the inside of Philadelphia’s cathedral, which is also right on the Parkway. It’s highly-decorated, Italian Renaissance design rivals anything you can photograph in Rome, Florence, or Pisa.

Philadelphia is a city of outstanding older and new architecture, and we’ll get to photograph that too, as we circumnavigate City Hall. This 1901 structure is surrounded by other exceptionally handsome buildings of various styles, including Art Deco, Modern, and Postmodern.

I’ll show you the best things to photograph, the best angles to shoot them from, and also give you a running commentary on the history and significance of what we’ll be seeing and photographing.

If are new to photography or could use a refresher on topics like f-stops, depth of field, basic composition, etc, I will conduct an optional, free pre-tour session on those topics 45 minutes before we start the tour for anyone registered.

Annapolis: 420 Racers from Spa Creek Bridge

Afternoon Light In Annapolis, MD
Annapolis is a little city with a long history – the capital of Maryland, and, according to its residents, the Sailing Capital of the World. Since it was first settled in 1649, the commercial and social life of this beautiful little town has been centered on its picturesque harbor, which is also a major tourist attraction.

If you are new to photography or could use a refresher on topics like f-stops, depth of field, basic composition, etc, I will conduct a free “pre-Safari” session on those topics 45 minutes prior to the listed starting time of these Safaris.

Please note that the starting times change so that we end around sunset.

NYC: Central Park

Saturday in the Park! What could be better…except a Photo Workshop!

Our first stop will be Strawberry Fields, an intimate haven just inside the park set aside as a memorial to John Lennon. From there, we’ll circumnavigate The Lake to take advantage of panoramic views with the elegant skylines of Central Park West or Fifth Avenue in the background.

We’ll “get lost” in The Ramble, a bucolic, forested tract with a picturesque stream and rustic bridges where, for the moment, you can imagine that the city is far away.

Finally, we’ll arrive at Bethesda Terrace, an iconic, romantic plaza that you’ll recognize from countless movies. We’ll explore the Terrace from the grand sweep of its monumental staircases to the intricate carvings of honeybees and birds along its steps.

It will be a journey that will delight your sense of color, texture, and proportion as well as refresh your spirit.

If you are new to photography or could use a refresher on topics like f-stops, depth of field, basic composition, etc, I will conduct a free pre-tour session on those topics 45 minutes prior to the listed starting time of these Safaris.

NYC: Big Apple Bridgewalk

NYC Photo Safari Big Apple Bridgewalk Brooklyn Bridge Manhattan Bridge

Join us on our most intrepid New York City Photo Adventure yet!

We’ll start our photo journey in New York’s colorful Chinatown, where we’ll find the Manhattan-side approach to the Manhattan Bridge pedestrian walkway. This will lead us over the rooftops of Chinatown, past the triumphal arch and colonnade (modeled after Porte Saint-Denis in Paris,) and out over the mighty river between Manhattan and Brooklyn. From this vantage point, we’ll have amazing views of Lower Manhattan and the entire span of Brooklyn Bridge.

Once on the Brooklyn side, we’ll head to Empire–Fulton Ferry Park, where we’ll shoot close-up, river-level views of Manhattan Bridge in one direction and Brooklyn Bridge in the other.

Finally, we’ll promenade back to Manhattan on The Promenade, the wide boardwalk well above the traffic lanes on the Brooklyn Bridge, where we’ll take spectacular photos of Lower Manhattan and the Bridge itself.
